Great leaders inspire. For 30 years, Ateneo Celadon has produced a string of great leaders, and this year’s batch is no different. Hence, we’ve decided to interview Celadon’s current executive board, so we can learn valuable insights from the very best of the organization!

Celadon’s Top Two

EG Dizon, President:  “Leadership is the inward capacity to [develop one’s self] in the pursuit of the growth of the other.”
Kimball Tan, Executive Vice President: “Being a leader gives us a sense of purpose, wherein we believe we can do something more for an organization, and where we can be part of something more than ourselves.”

The Communication (COMM) Department

Joal Lin, VP for Communication: “Because of my control freak nature, I remember wanting to help fix the system, but being a relative newbie, what could I possibly do? About a month later, Celections came out, and this time, my application wasn’t on a whim anymore. It was passion.”
Erika Angeles, AVP for Creatives: “Being a leader is a big leap itself. If you’re up for it, there’s a whole lot of risks ahead. It’s how you deal with them that counts.”
Matt Yu, AVP for Strategic Planning: “I wanted to become a leader because I felt like I could do so much more than just follow orders. I felt like I wanted to go beyond that that.”

The Corporate Relations (CORREL) Department

Jesse Lui, VP for Corporate Relations: “Leadership is inevitable to attain in trying to be active in Celadon mainly because the people are much more welcoming and fun to be with and I want to make my time productive, so leadership is just a side effect, never the main desire.”
Alex Españo, AVP for Corporate Relations: “…I feel confident and proud to be standing up and representing something that I wholeheartedly trust, love, and believe in.”
Dianne Tan, AVP for Corporate Relations: “Leadership is the ability to draw out the full potentials of other people and making use of these potentials for a greater cause.”

The Cultural Affairs (CUL) Department

Jannina Ong, VP for Cultural Affairs: “I want to pass that experience on to other new members out there – the feeling that there is a place where different people, despite having come from different walks of life, can call home – so that they may continue to pass it on to the younger generation too.”
Jerwin Ting, AVP for Cultural Affairs: “I see Celadon as a meeting place for people to have fun and create unbreakable friendships.”
Eugene Andojoyan, AVP for Cultural Affairs: “For me, when I decided to run, I was risking my academic life, my social life, and other lives out there. But the big risk had great rewards. I have no regrets at all.”

The External Affairs (EXT) Department

Steph Sayson, VP for Externals: “Being in position doesn’t inherently mean you are a leader, neither does being a leader mean you deserve one; leadership is the commitment to serve passionately, with or without a position.”
Himig Marcos, AVP for External Affairs: “…I want Celadon to be at least as much as what it is to me in my growth, as it can be to others. I want others’ Celadon experience to be at least as great as mine, and so I work towards helping Celadon maintain that.”
Kimberly Ang, AVP for External Affairs: “Leadership is leading a team and learning things from them at the same time.”

The Financial Affairs (FIN) Department

Aldwyn Tan, VP for Financial Affairs: “It is when we’re faced adversity – of having to make the difficult choices – is when we truly discover ourselves and what we’re capable of…What matters is first taking that leap of faith, then just committing yourself to the choices you’ve made, and see wherever it’ll lead you.”
Irish Tolentilo, AVP for Financial Affairs: “I found myself feeling basking in happiness and fulfillment, knowing that I can actually contribute and be part to something bigger and greater than myself. And perhaps, if given the chance, even give other people the same opportunity to do so and have that same feeling.”

The Human Resources (HR) Department

Isaac Cheung, VP for Human Resources: “I became a leader in Celadon because I wanted to give back to the wonderful family I have found here. Of all the organizations, none of them have the bubbly, warm Celadon atmosphere that will instantly make you fall in love with its competencies and its people.”
Timothy Ching, AVP for Membership Involvement: “As a leader, it is your responsibility to ensure that a project goes flawlessly. And a successful project requires a team that knows its limits and can handle things objectively and efficiently.”
Yssa Yu, AVP for Leadership Formation: “…I realized that Celadon is somewhere I want to stay and is something that is worth spending time in. I enjoyed the feeling of seeing and helping people grow and become the best they can be.”

The Publications (PUB) Department

Joshua Cheng, VP for Publications: “I want to give back to this organization in my own mad way.”
Faith Ong, AVP for Publications: “I was drawn to the events and the people and I started to join them. And it was then that I realized that I could do more and give more for the organization that has helped me grow in so many ways.”
